Ready to use a touch-up paint pen on your Mitsubishi?

  1. First, wash your car, focusing on the area that needs touching up; use a good car wash soap and a clean microfiber towel.
  2. Carefully clean out the chip, scratch, or scuff using either fine-grit sandpaper or abrasive tip on pen, if it has one.
  3. Start painting from top of the damage down, doing a light coat to start; try to match the thickness of the paint around the damage.
  4. Let the first coat dry according to directions.
  5. When it's dry, take a look at the painted area to see if it matches up with the rest of the paint job; if it's uneven, apply another coat.
  6. If your pen comes with a clear-coat side, apply a light layer of that; otherwise, get some, and apply it. Clear coats help protect painted surfaces from future scrapes and damaging UV rays.
  7. Let the remaining coats dry accordingly.

Afterward, you'll want to wait around 60 days to put a coat of wax on your ride. Note: a paint pen may not always fully repair a chip. For bigger damaged areas, you may need either a full touch-up or to repaint an entire body panel. This can be a job for a service center; if you need to, get in touch with a Mitsubishi dealer to schedule bodywork. Learn More

FAQs About Touch-Up Paint

Do touch-up paint pens work?

They're great for repainting dings and scuffs to a vehicle's body panels measuring around 2 square inches or less. Even better, they help prevent that exposed metal rusting in the long run.

Can I use a touch-up paint pen on my Mitsubishi?

Yes. You'll just want to make sure the pen is properly color-matched; check your owner's manual for key info like the paint color and color code for your model. An OEM paint pen's your best bet for quality results, too; Mitsubishi did your original paint job, after all.

How do I use a touch-up paint pen?

It's easy. Just be sure to work somewhere well-lit and ventilated; familiarize yourself with how the pen works by checking out its prep and use instructions, and testing it on a scrap surface; don't do any touch-ups in direct sunlight or when it's too hot or too cold; and, just as importantly, take the time you need to get the job done right.

What should I do if I don't know the paint code for my color?

If you're unsure what paint pen you should order, contact one of our Mitsubishi parts centers online and an expert will be able to assist you.
