FAQs About Air Conditioner and Heater Parts

Why is the HVAC in my Mitsubishi not working right?

For one, the coolant may be low or leaking. Secondly, the heater core might be defective, or one of its hoses might be bad. Third, the condenser or compressor might've failed, if not the compressor clutch. Otherwise, the blower motor might've gone out, a cooling fan may have stopped working, or the cabin air filter might be clogged.

What are the symptoms of a faulty AC compressor and condenser?

You'll know a bad compressor from the cabin seeming warmer than usual, from the AC sounding funny, from its clutch appearing to be stuck, and from connecting a voltmeter and getting no voltage reading. Causes include low refrigerant pressure, a faulty cycling switch, and a blown fuse. A failed AC condenser, you'll know from an HVAC warning light on the dash, from frost starting to build up, from the AC button flashing, and from discharge pressure issues; the vents won't blow cold. If no air's coming through them at all, though, the problem's more likely the blower motor.

How can I tell when to replace my cabin air filter?

Signs include worn or brittle filter fibers, dirt and debris buildup in the filter, and restricted airflow through it. The Check Engine light may also come on the dash, your interior may start to smell dirty or stale, the engine will start working harder than usual, and other electrical systems, including the heater and air conditioner, will malfunction.

Can I install AC and heating parts myself?

With the right skillset. Be sure to follow your owner's manual or any other manufacturer documentation you've got, and if you need help, you can always get in touch with a Mitsubishi service center.
