What fluids in a Mitsubishi need to be serviced regularly?
Mainly, the motor oil, the coolant in the cooling system, the brake fluid, and the transmission fluid. Otherwise, differential, power steering, hydraulic clutch, and windshield washer fluids.
What do a car's fluids do?
Motor oil lubricates engine parts -- for instance, pistons, valves, bearings, gears, pumps, and seals, plus the timing chain. Transmission fluid greases and helps cool gearbox parts. Differential oil cools off the many parts of a differential and lubes them. Power steering fluid lubes and cools the power steering pump, the steering gear box, and other parts. Coolant and antifreeze lubricate things like the water pump to help keep the engine from overheating, and they enable using the climate control system. Brake fluid both oils brake system parts like valves and pistons and helps hydraulically pressurize the brakes. Hydraulic clutch fluid helps run clutches in manual transmissions. Windshield washer fluid, an anti-freezing solution, helps keep the windshield and sometimes the headlights free of muck, frost, ice, and snow.
How often should fluids be flushed and replaced?
Engine oil, every 3,000 miles to every 15,000. Transmission and differential fluid, every 30,000 miles to every 60,000. Coolant and brake fluid, every two years or 30,000 miles. Power steering fluid, every two years or every 40,000 to 80,000 miles. Hydraulic clutch fluid, every 24,000 miles or every two years. Windshield washer fluid, top off every couple months to every 6.
Can I add, replace, or otherwise top off fluids myself?
