What kind of transmission does my Mitsubishi have?

Manual's the kind you probably have if you like "driving stick" for the practical experience and hands-on feel, and if it's got a clutch. Auto's what you might have if you like shifting without having to step on that clutch. They all work a little differently.
How does my Mitsubishi manual transmission work?
A manual transmission lets you select gear ratios and shift without your engine going above its rpm range (redline). You press a clutch, an input shaft separates, and you grab the gear lever and shift into gear. What happens is a linkage connects a locking collar to an output shaft; you let go of the clutch, the input shaft re-engages, an output shaft turns, and you keep on driving.
How does the auto transmission in my Mitsubishi work?
With an auto transmission, there's no clutch; a fluid coupling converter (a torque converter) gets added to the gearset, and it connects your engine and transmission, letting you change gears using fluid pressure.
What are the signs the transmission in my Mitsubishi is going bad?
