All About Towing and Hauling with a Mitsubishi
Whether you're hauling a dirt bike or two behind a Mitsubishi Outlander, trailering a jet ski, powerboat, or a second vehicle with a Mitsubishi Mighty Max, or otherwise, you'll want to do it safely. For that, you'll need a few essentials -- some towing accessories, to start with.
For one, a ball mount and trailer ball; these let you connect both a tow hitch and a trailer coupler. Secondly, security accessories -- we're talking a hitch lock, hitch pin, safety pin, and an anti-rattle kit; a lock or pin, you stick in a trailer ball to keep the hitch and receiver together better, while an anti-rattle kit can help secure a ball mount shank better. Third, fish wires, if you plan to install carriage bolts.
Of course, it'll be a good idea to have the right recovery towing accessories, too, such as tow hooks and tow straps; they're used to pull equipment, other vehicles, and even your own ride out of tough spots like deep mud. Ditto for a sway control unit to help stabilize your load, trailer lighting to work with your taillights to indicate load position on the road, trailer brakes to work with your vehicle's brakes and add stopping power for heavier trailers, a wiring harness to help power it all, and a safety chain to help prevent trailer separation.
There's plenty more you might need, too -- hitch-mounted accessories like winches, tow mirrors, hitch tube covers for protection, fifth-wheel, gooseneck, and ATV towing accessories, you name it. Check your owner's manual to figure out exactly what's called for before hitting the road, and be sure to use OEM parts for the install.
