All About Mitsubishi Brake Rotors

What a Brake Rotor is

Brake rotors are the discs in a disc brake system. They work together with brake calipers and brake pads to create friction. This resistance, your Mitsubishi uses to slow down and stop. The rotors also help scatter the heat of the braking process.

There are four kinds of brake rotors: blank & smooth/smooth, which Mitsubishi cars and many of the brand's SUVs use; and slotted, drilled/cross-drilled, and drilled & slotted, which Mitsubishi sports cars and performance-oriented SUVs often use.

When Should You Replace the Brake Rotors in Your Mitsubishi?

When you see the signs that they're faulty. These include unusual noises, wobbling when braking, and damaged rotor surfaces. Don't let swapping them out go too long, either; they fail, and your brakes will have serious trouble slowing your ride down and stopping it, and you'll almost certainly end up in an accident. Otherwise, change them every 70,000 miles or so.

How Much Mitsubishi Brake Rotor Replacement Costs, on Average

You might be looking at paying anywhere from $325 or so to $415, per recent RepairPal data; it can depend on the Mitsubishi model you drive. For example, according to YourMechanic, Mitsubishi Outlander brake rotor replacement might run you $350 or thereabouts.

Can I Change a Brake Rotor Myself?

It's fairly straightforward; just be sure to follow the directions in your owner's manual. All you'll need for the job is a pair of safety goggles, some work gloves, and a few tools, for most installations. We're talking a torque wrench, a C-clamp (or brake piston tool), and a lug wrench (or socket set). Also, grab some brake cleaner, anti-seize compound, and brake lubricant, and use a jack and jack stands to hoist your vehicle for running the necessary inspection.
