What's the Difference Between an Exhaust Tip and a Tailpipe?
A tailpipe is the last stage of an exhaust system; it releases mostly harmless carbon dioxide and water vapor, the byproducts of your engine burning fuel and oxygen, into the air, where it dissipates. An exhaust tip, on the other hand, is mostly for aesthetics; one can give your Mitsubishi a sportier appearance, that of a tailpipe that juts out past the rear bumper, grabbing attention.
Will an Exhaust Tip Change the Sound of the Exhaust in My Mitsubishi?
Yes; it's one of many exhaust mods you can make. However, the sound you get depends on the size of the exhaust tip and what kind it is. A larger one -- one with a wider diameter -- will give the exhaust a deeper, more aggressive sound. A smaller one, however, with a narrower diameter, will make the exhaust raspier, sometimes cutting noise, in the case of having a longer pipe or tip, but often, making the sound higher-pitched.
How Do I Know What Exhaust Tip Fits My Mitsubishi?
You'll need to measure the inlet diameter, plus check that the tip outlet size fits any cutout, so you don't have to make any new cuts, which can damage your bumper.
