All About Mitsubishi Grilles

One of the quickest and easiest customizations you can make to your Mitsubishi to get the perfect combo of style and utility is installing a grille or two. You've got plenty of options beyond everyday front grilles, too -- everything from cowl screens and wheel grilles to rear decklid grilles, in fact.

A cowl screen, you'll find on the hood of your car, truck, or SUV, if it has one (Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, for example, should); it covers the gap between the hood and the windshield, and can also help ventilate, in this case, the SUV's interior. A wheel grille, on the other hand, you can find below your ride's front bumper, if it's got one; it helps dissipate brake heat (from friction between brake rotors and brake pads). A rear decklid grille, however, helps safeguard and ventilate the engine in a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) vehicle.

Of course, front grilles, most vehicles have; you may know yours as, say, a front bumper grille or a lower grille. They allow air to flow freely, circulate around, and cool off radiators and engines.

How to Mod a Front Grille

If you're looking to, say, upgrade your front grille, it's easy. Grab a pair of work gloves and some safety goggles, a socket set or some spanner wrenches, and pop your hood. All you have to do, usually, is find the grille cover, take it off, use a spanner (and, if needed, a spray-on lubricant) to remove all the nuts and bolts, work the old grille loose and take it off, and then slide in the new grille. (Put it in the same way the old one was mounted.) Then, it's just a matter of replacing the grille bolts, taking your vehicle for a test-drive, listening for any rattling or knocking, and checking your new grilles to make sure they're seated and bolted in correctly.

Check your owner's manual for specific directions. Need help with an install? Feel free to get in touch with a Mitsubishi dealer.
