Mitsubishi Weather Stripping FAQ
What Does Weather Stripping Do for a Mitsubishi?
For one, it helps keep seepage -- rainwater, snow and ice, and so on -- out of the interior. Secondly, it helps ensure that its doors close more quietly. In other words, it's one of many exterior accessories, like bumpers and mud guards, that help your Mitsubishi last (and hold onto its value and resale value) longer.
What are the Signs the Weather Stripping in My Mitsubishi is Bad?
First off, you'll hear airflow through the doors and/or windows, even if they're closed. Secondly, you'll see water stains in the channels where the strips go. Third, you'll notice that the strips are cracked or brittle. In any case, you should replace the weather strips as needed.
How Do I Install Weather Strips in a Mitsubishi?
It's a matter of taking out the old screws, stripping the channels of adhesive and letting them dry, putting on new adhesive, pressing fresh strips in and aligning them, and putting the screws back in. The process may vary between, say, a Mitsubishi Lancer and a Mitsubishi Eclipse, so check your owner's manual. Just be sure to use the same strip lengths and kinds of parts you did before. For best results, stick to OEM.
Why Buy OEM Weather Stripping vs. Aftermarket?
It's Mitsubishi-quality, the kind service centers prefer: it'll fit right and work better. Most importantly, using it won't void your factory warranty, like using some aftermarket weather strips can.
