Mitsubishi Shocks and Struts FAQ

What Do Shocks and Struts Do?

They control the activity of the coil springs in the suspension of your Mitsubishi. Put simply, they help keep you in control while you drive. They do it by stabilizing your vehicle (minimizing its body roll, and in doing so, keeping its tires on the road), helping its wheels maintain alignment, and ensuring it can handle properly and consistently brake.

How Can I Tell if My Mitsubishi Has a Bad Shock or Strut?

By the signs: ride quality getting worse, and the vehicle starting to either lean forward when stopping, bounce or pull sideways when turning, or both. Other symptoms of faulty shocks and struts include worsening steering response, loss of control at higher speeds, flat (or at least uneven) areas on the tires, and an oily or greasy film on the absorbers and assemblies. In any case, run a suspension inspection, replacing whatever the results call for. Otherwise, inspect everything every 50,000 miles at least, as per the maintenance schedule in most owner's manuals.

How Much Does Mitsubishi Shock and Strut Replacement Cost?

Between $985 or so and $1,100 plus on average, according to recent data from RepairPal. However, expenses generally vary based on model; replacing a Mitsubishi Outlander shock or strut, for example, can run $1,000 to $1,070 or more. Not sure how to swap out the old for the new? Need help with the job? Feel free to schedule a service appointment with a Mitsubishi dealer.
