Mitsubishi Intake Manifolds FAQ
What Does an Intake Manifold Do?
Working with the air intake, throttle body, air filter, and fuel system, it draws the right amount of air into the engine cylinders, where it mixes with fuel in the right ratio for combustion. If the engine is an older, carbureted kind, the intake pulls in both air and fuel.
What happens is air goes through the intake and throttle body into the manifold's plenum. There, the air's distributed to each of the runners equally. During this "intake stroke," the piston pumps to create low pressure in the cylinder, which pulls air from the (high-pressure) runner into it; the intake valve closes, and it pressurizes the air back up the runner, where it bounces off the plenum and, when the intake valve opens again, reenters the cylinder.
The process continues in every cylinder until the engine's shut off.
How Can I Tell the Intake Manifold in My Mitsubishi is Going Bad?
From signs like the Check Engine light coming on, leaking coolant, rough idling, stalling, engine underperformance, worsening fuel economy, unusual engine noise, the engine running hot, and overheats. In any case, run an inspection to figure out the problem, and replace any problematic parts. If you need help with the job, get in touch with a Mitsubishi dealer to schedule a service appointment.
How Much Does Mitsubishi Intake Manifold Replacement Cost?
According to industry sources, a few hundred dollars to more than $1,000; it depends on parts, and on whether you have repairs done at a Mitsubishi service center. It can also depend on Mitsubishi model; Mitsubishi Outlander intake manifold gasket replacement can run anywhere from $565 to $640 or more on average, according to recent RepairPal data.
