How Can I Tell the Transmission Filter in My Mitsubishi Needs Changing?

Disassembling the transmission is a tricky process and isn't recommended unless you have the skillset. (And when in doubt, a Mitsubishi dealer can take care of it.) Your best bet, to stay ahead of a transmission going bad, is to replace the filter at the transmission fluid flush interval recommended in your owner's manual; you'll know it's time from a warning light on the dash.

Can I Replace a Mitsubishi Transmission Filter Myself?

Yes. Pretty much all you have to do is remove the transmission pan, drain the fluid, pop out the old filter, put in a new one, replace the fluid, and seal the transmission back up with the right pan gasket. Changing the filters in some Mitsubishi transmissions can be more complicated, though, so if you end up needing help, get in touch with a Mitsubishi service center.
