About the Mitsubishi Cordia
With DNA from Japan's legendary Mitsubishi GTO, the Cordia is one speed-demoniac sports car. Even as early as its 1990 release, it was already making a name for itself as a model of craftsmanship belying an enthusiast's expertise. For one, it was known for its powerful performance, owing to packing turbocharged engines like the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 of VR4 fame, plus all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, and an active aero package that helped make it an adrenalized thrill-ride, road to track. Secondly, it was a paragon of appointments, with tech and luxury features at the bleeding edge of the heyday of performance cars of 1990s -- everything from leather seats and air-conditioning to a CD player. Furthermore, it was uniquely styled, with a design bordering on iconic -- sometimes retro, occasionally future-facing, always unmistakably Mitsubishi. Above all, however, it was affordable, leaving plenty of cash for customization fresh off the lot.
Mitsubishi Cordia FAQ
What are the Engine Specs on a Cordia?
As it’s a compact car -- more specifically, a hatchback coupe -- with a front-wheel drivetrain (FWD), its engines run smaller, ranging from 1.4- and 1.6-liter in size to 2.0-liter (one of which, the 1.6-liter, is turbocharged). Depending on which your Cordia has, it may pair with either a 2x4-speed Super Shift manual transmission, a five-speed manual, or a three- or four-speed automatic.
How Much Horsepower Does a Cordia Have?
Anywhere from 68 to 112, depending on the engine. If you're looking to increase it, consider upgrading to a turbo or supercharger, putting in a cold air intake, and swapping out the factory engine air filter for a performance air filter.
How Much Does a Cordia Weigh?
Around 2,000 pounds to start with, to just more than 2,100. If you want to cut its weight a bit -- to speed the car up; to increase its fuel economy -- try to run light. For one, replace any factory steel wheels it has with lightweight alloy wheels. Secondly, upgrade its factory body panels to carbon-fiber.
